Capitol Hill Visits
DID YOU KNOW?
The net worth of the average American household headed by a woman is $48,500 versus $82,400 for households headed by a man.
Sponsored by Levi Strauss Foundation
Capitol Hill Visits are your opportunity to educate Members of Congress and their staff about the importance of asset-building policies and how asset-building programs in their home states and communities are transforming people's lives. Legislators are more effective at drafting, promoting and supporting legislation after hearing from their constituents about local asset-building efforts.
During Hill Visits, participants from the same legislative districts will be grouped together to advocate jointly for the kind of policies that will allow low-income families and communities to become more financially secure and build wealth. Whether this is your first time visiting your elected officials or you have made several visits in the past, everyone has an important perspective to share, so we hope you'll join your colleagues for an inspiring afternoon on the Hill.
Signing up for a Hill Visit
If you are interested in visiting your legislator on Capitol Hill, please be sure to sign up for a Hill visit when your register for the Conference. A member of CFED’s Policy Team will contact you to confirm your interest in visiting your legislators. CFED will work with you and others from your state to schedule your visits and beginning in July, you will receive a confirmation message that will include your legislators’ names, meeting times and locations.
Hill Visit Materials
CFED has created a list of Best Practices and a Policy Agenda to Promote Asset Building for Advocates when meeting with legislators and their staff. Advocates will receive Hill Visit packets during Thursday morning registration at the Conference. Below you will find some of the documents that will be included in the packets.
